International Wine Challenge

Venue: The Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London , 07-Sep-2010

The 2010 IWC Awards Dinner will be on 7th September at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London.

Established in 1983, the International Wine Challenge started life in a single room in a Bayswater mews assessing the merits of just 39 wines, but it has grown to become a two-week extravaganza in the Barbican Centre using the skills of 400-odd tasters to judge over 10,000 different wines from 46 different countries.

The IWC has always prided itself on providing a snapshot of the wine world – an overview of the quality of what is available in the market place, from entry-point quaffers to some of the finest wines in the world.

It is an inclusive competition, with no room for snobbery or elitism. As well as entries from the usual wine-producing suspects, we taste bottles from numerous countries including the likes of Brazil, Malta, Georgia, Israel, Lebanon, Peru and Uruguay. It’s the chance for our judges to sample such a broad range of wines – our panels do not stick rigidly to the same region or country – that encourages so many top tasters to join our team.

In 2010, the judging ran from 12th-23rd April at The Barbican, with the Awards announced at the London International Wine Fair on 18th May; the Awards Dinner will be held on 7th September at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane.

IWC 2011 will be judged at the Barbican from 11th to 21st April 2011 and the results will be announced at the London International Wine Fair on 17th May 2011
